Conventional

Cheapest cost of purchase and installation
Least efficient
Lowest recovery rate
Distinguishable by its draft collar and metal venting
Typically vented through the chimney or vent stack
Does not require standard electrical source therefore will run during a power outage

Power Vent

Capacity: 40-75 US Gallons
Mid range cost to purchase and install
More efficient than Conventional (CV)
Slightly better recovery rate than Conventional
Distinguishable by its ventor motor and 2″ or 3″ venting pipe
Typical exhaust termination on the side of the house
Requires 115V power supply

Direct Vent

Capacity: 40-75 US Gallons
Expensive to purchase and install
More efficient than Power Vent (PV)
Similar recovery rate to Power Vent
Distinguishable by its two pipe intake and venting system
Sealed combustion chamber
Does not use air from inside the home for venting or combustion
Requires 115V electrical supply

High Efficiency

Capacity: 50 & 75 US Gallons
Most expensive to purchase and install
Very efficient
Super high recovery rate
Available in Power Vent and Direct Vent configurations
